Lock Repair
« on: October 31, 2013, 07:20:01 AM »
In August of 2010 I posted a request for help repairing an original lock.  The tumbler used a stirrup to connect to the mainspring and one of the ears is broken.  Some nice gentleman replied that he would be glad to help.  When I went to get the lock I couldn't find it.  It showed back up yesterday and now I can't remember who the gentleman was  if this person sees this post please contact me.

Another place is  www.flintlockrepair.com   they specialize in restoration work. Maybe Bob Roller, a member here does prime work as well, but don't know if he does repairs....Tom

I also repair locks.   Actually,  I can make everything on the rifle except the barrel;at least to date.   I expect to rectify that at some point.   I have had a LOT of experience forging tumblers.    Little jobs like that,  I take care of fairly quickly; which in my case means in less than a month.  :D

(yet a little further off thread, but I hope worthwhile )  :)

Over his workbench hangs a sign, various words underlined in red. It reads:
“No delivery promised. Take your work when well done or take it elsewhere. When? If you must know when I will be through with your work, the answer is now. Take your work away. I don’t want it. I have no way of knowing when. I work seventeen hours a day. Daily interruptions average 1 ½ hours. Dark weather sets me back still more. I’m human. I’m tired. I refuse longer to be worried by promises that circumstances do not allow me to keep”

(quoted from an article written about Harry M. Pope, New Jersey barrel smith, when he was 73 years old.)
