RR pipe forming tool
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:16:41 PM »
a while back, inside a discussion, someone posted pictures of a tool they had made for forming the flats on an octagonal RR pipe. I've looked all through old threads and can't find it anywhere now. If anyone remembers what the thread was and point me to it please.

Or, alternately, can we see some pics of the tools used to form the flats on thin pipes.

SC,
They have this over in the tutorial section. This is an  example of what I use to make my thimbles wedding bands as well as flats using mandrels and punches.

The flattened cold rolled rod has only 5 flats. I tend only to flatten using only the center of the 5 flats rotating the pipes around to flatten the brass at each section in turn. I then follow up with the file to finish the flats.
