This 40 caliber rifle has an A weight, swamped rice barrel, Chamber's late Ketland lock, Davis double set triggers, forged iron mounts, pewter nose cap, steel ramrod, and is stocked in curly maple. It has yet to be fired, so the front sight is most likely tall.

Your Pictures make me realize why I love those Southern Rifles
I got a swirly cherry stock blank thats been tucked away for almost 30 years
also have all the hand forged parts
just been trying to figure out caliber and barrel weight
your gun has pushed me over the edge
I better get my bench back together

5 rounds at 25 yards benched can be covered with a dime. Not bad when 4 degrees out, loading with a steel ramrod

I don,t know if the iron RR is a good idea, however it will never break and go through your hand.

Thanks again guys. The ram rod is a very mild steel(actually I've never found steel as mild) easy to bend and file. Much easier to file than the barrel. I've been using one for years on a rifle of my own and was concerned at first but less and less as I have used it...Is a wooden ramrod that has a steel tip any less of a hazard? Also consider abrasives the wood can hold.?Just a few thoughts-to each his own

I like this rifle allot! I haven't seen too many southern rifle builds with swamped barrels. Really makes for a nicer balance I would think. Beautiful rifle!
