Ed,  Looking at my copy of Battle Weapons of the American Revolution I only see swords up to #186.  I's like to help.  Am I missing something here?

Ed,  The closest hunting sword I can see in Newmans Battle Weapons book is sword #87SS.  It is a European hunting sword Circa 1750 - 1760.  The length is 22-3/8", the blade is 16 3/4" x 1".  It has pierced designs in a stylized shell guard with a curved blade.  The hilt is brass.  I see from the tag in your photo that that sword is 1650 vintage.

David, Thanks for checking, I don't know how accurate the tag is on this piece and was looking for other examples. Does the 87ss sword resemble this one??? Thanks, Ed

Ed,
It is a French hunting sword, date unknown.  When I lived in IL, I had a neighbor, an antique dealer, who traveled to various parts of the world each year and sent stuff back.  Then he held a weeklong, "by invitation only" sale.  We bought some nice stuff from him over the years at reasonable prices.  He knew of my interests and always tried to find such items for me.

Born Springfield, raised in Georgetown, graduated Elmhurst College and National Lewis Univ, had a business in Lisle 1971-2000 and lived in Downers Grove during that period.

TRS has a set of hilt fittings for a German hunting sword, much like ththose shown above.
