In this update I'm fixing a few issues before profiling the lock and side plate moldings.

Staining saw dust is going to make for a dark " patch ". Not the way I would have done it. I'm still waiting for something that makes it resemble a Bucks County gun.

Tom, That's a fair statement, though I guess it is more a criticism of Track of the Wolf, than of me. It is TOW's Buck's County Kit , and with just a few exceptions, I'm working with what TOW sent.

I guess I could call it TOW's Bucks County Kit Generic Longrifle instead.

On the patch, what do you recommend vs the stained sawdust that I used?

Firelock, I understand it's Tracks kit with component parts, not your selection of parts. Distinctive Bucks County hardware such as the unique Bucks county entry pipe and also trigger guard and /or buttplate with thumb nail finials are most often seen on Bucks County guns with exceptions of course. Fancy triggers are common also. Open nose cap..etc. Not mention stock architecture. I haven't seen a full stock shot to comment on that.

I would have taken a sliver of wood ( maybe half round in your case ) with grain in the same direction and pressed it into place. It will stain more evenly with surrounding wood. All that surface area on that sawdust will draw stain much more than wood in it's natural state.

Firelock, I don't know if you just plan to build it in it's kit form or am interested in refining the buttstock to make it more " Bucks " like. Do you have access to RCA # 1 to use as a reference ? I would provide suggestions but I don't want to get ahead of what you are doing.

I know your basic premise is just how to build a kit gun.

I do have RCA #1, but there isn't any extra wood on the butt to allow much in the way of changes.

Not to mention that my skill set is pretty limited.

I'm not questioning your skill set, you seen to have good skills,  just want it to look like a Bucks County rifle when it done.

A lot of work goes into building these guns, sometimes a little extra effort in styling makes a big difference in the end product.
