Horn W/Two Bands
« on: February 10, 2014, 07:01:11 PM »
It is about 12” around the outside curve. The Walnut base is about 2”, it is hollowed out about 3/4s of the way through and held in place with 7 pins. The tip is two part antler, held on with three pins. The bands are also held in place with three pins each.

That is a nice horn.  I like the pouring spout.

I like every thing except the butt. Not sure why, It's not bad, just not what I think I see. No suggestions either. I'm not much help.

Steve, there are a couple other options, 1. If instead of a step down there was a step Up after the first ring. 2. No step at all just rounded back to the finial.

The base is very typical of the Banded horn.  It is a unique style.  It is hard for me not to want to "fancy" them up a bit. But if you want to stay in "the school" you stick to the unique plainness .  Looks fine to me.  Wish I knew how to post pictures.

I think I'm just getting to picky. Last horn I did I made 2 plugs and reshaped the second twice. I think I'll build other styles for a spell. Maybe do some combs or something. Maybe get on a rifle again. I do think it's well done.
