I am curious if you shoot right handed which side do you carry your horn.
 Most of the horns I have or made for right hand carry.  I have to that are for left hand.

I carry mine on the right side just above my hunting bag on its on strap.  I do see a lot of horns attached to the same strap the bag is attached to.

I shoot right eyed - carry my bag on the right side, and have horns that go either side - makes no difference to me.  but what does make a difference is that the horn not be attached to the bag strap.  I need the horn to be free and carried above the bag so that it doesn't interfere with me getting into my bag.  When I hunt, I usually pass by belt over the bag's strap along my back, so the bag stays put.  The horn is free to move, relatively, but being pretty much tucked up under my arm, it is easy to control.  Everyone has their own system.

I shoot right handed and carry my horn on the left side. Keep the horn as far away from the sparks as possible. Just the way I was taught back in the early sixties and have never changed. And at this age, I don't intend to. There's some sayin' about ole dogs and new tricks.

I shoot right handed, bag on the right just above my waistline. Horn on the left up a little higher than the waist and pushed back as far as I can to keep away from the sparks.
I hold the measure in right hand, pull up the horn with my left hand, pull the plug with my teeth, fill measure, replace plug and let the horn back down then load. Been doing it that way about 30 years.

My old shooting buddy (RIP) would always laugh at my limb horn plugs! I would just cut a small limb with a branch on it and use it for the plug. When the teeth chewed it up then cut another. I never did use a fiddle peg.

I shoot right eyed and am right handed, so I carry my pouch on my right side where I can best get into it with my right hand.  Back in the 70’s, I started putting my belt over the shoulder straps to hold the pouch firmly in place as Taylor mentioned and that works well especially when I’m running in some primitive matches.  As I was taught in the 70’s, if you can’t run well with your gear or climb or descend the way you have it slung, you might ought to look at carrying it differently.  I also carried my cartridge box the same way when I did a Confederate Marine impression.  I can see how this could/would keep the pouch too low if I was normally on horseback, but I’m almost always on foot with a black powder gun.

I’ve tried the horn attached to the bag, but for me it works best for the horn to be on a separate strap and I carry it on my right side a bit above the pouch.  I tried carrying my horn on my left side, but my left hand did not seem to have the coordination not to spill too much powder from the horn when filling the powder measure.  Grin.  I inherited “soft teeth” from my Mother’s side of the family and chipped a tooth once when pulling the horn plug out with my teeth, so I do it instead with my left hand. 

There is no “right or wrong” way to carry your pouch and horn, it is all about what is best for you.

The basic idea is to do what works best for you, and what works for you efficiently.

If you have to fumble around, switching hands back-n-forth as your reach for things and handle your gun it might not be the best set-up for ya.

Did you know that a left hand horn turned front to back will fit on the right side?
To get powder from a horn you have to tip it up, I have never heard anybody say the spout has to be forward,, think about it,,,

I tried attaching the horn to the bag strap--once. I didn't like the gyrations involved in filling the horn and the way the horn was always in the way of bag access. Left/right? Your call.

No fiddle pegs here either. They seem better suited to tuning fiddles. I kind of like guitar end pins for stoppers. I replaced bridge and end pins on my D-18 and repurposed the end pin. You can get them from Stew-Mac.

As would be the case, I have both horn/bag attached and separate horn/bags.  Obviously I simply can't make up my mind.  For 50 years I've generally carried separate horn and bag on the right side as I'm a right handed shooter.  I hold the measure with the left hand and tilt the horn with the right.  I've also done left side carry but the right feels more natural to me. 

When deer hunting I now usually carried pre-measured charges and dispense with the horn altogether.  Few shots will be fired so a horn isn't needed and the bag holds everything I'll need.  Small game hunting is different because of the possibility of many shots being fired.  A bag w/attached horn worn on the right side works out fine.

I shoot mostly left hand and always hunt that way. I carry both bag and horn on the left as well. I can clamp them down fairly secure with my carry arm while fending off brush and briar with my free hand and not get hung up, for the most part.

I carry my horn on the right, on a separate strap from the bag.  I used to use a horn suspended from the bag strap.  I got away from that when I set up bags for each gun but wanted to use the same horn. 

One of my umpty-great grandfathers carried a horn that we would probably consider "left-handed," but judging from wear patterns he carried it on the right side.  It may have just been his preference, or there may have been other reasons.

I carry bag on right side with horn attached to strap and shoot right handed,it seems a little uncomfortable pouring powder from horn when attached to same strap as the bag so when weather breaks i'm going to try a new approach and carry bag on left side and horn on separate strap on right side and see how that feels.

I'm right handed and I carry both my horn and bag ( strapped separately ) on my right side high on my body. I leave the left side for a haversack.
