I calls it the Chickenhawk horn

You can see why.  My first effort at relief carving an eagle....
well it doesn't quite look eagleish.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

"...quite eaglish..." And neither did 9/10's of the old timers eagles... You're in good company, it looks fine.

Thanks to all.  I used Cherry for the plug.  It's easy to shape and turns fairly well.

Looks darn good to me, just like the originals do. That is what we should be trying to do in my book, get the look of an original.. Good work Shreck.

Many Thanks.  I couldn't resist putting a Sheckengost theme on the other side.

That's a right fine looking horn.  I keep telling myself I need to make some more, but I've been going full bore on blacksmithing.
Personally I love everything about this horn.

Many of the early Eagles had heads that were almost serpentine and other differences from reality, so yours is more authentic than you may think.  Heck in many 17th and 18th engravings and pommels on swords: alligators looked like dragons, lions look like dogs,  bears look like boars, etc., etc.

Keep at it and I have no doubt your work will come to please you well.
