Have a question about the pictures in T.M. Hamilton`s book  Colonial Frontier guns .. on Page 67 the evolution of the serpent side plate are they actual size ? because I want to make as many parts as I can for this Type G trade gun build

I couldn't say, but I think that you will have better results tailoring the size of your side plate to your lock rather than just copying an original. Also, even if the pictures are intended as full-sized, it is always possible that the photography and printing process has produced some small discrepancies - Track of the Wolf's catalog with the "exact size" pictures is not 100% accurate either.

I'd also imagine that there was some variance in the originals as well.

Make the sideplate to fit the spacing of the lock bolts.

Ditto on the two previous replies.  If you don't make the serpent sideplate to fit your lockbolt spacing exactly, you will have issues and regrets.  And start over.  Don't ask me how I know this....  :-[
