Pictures of a Tip Curtis Completed Rifle by Tip Curtis, Not In The White

I have decided after reading in a lot of places that I want a Tip
Curtis rifle which has been "completed" by Tip Curtis.  I do not want a rifle in the white for me to mess up.  I know what my limitations are.

I am  not  looking  for a particular style, basically  a 36, .40 or .45, flint, nice rifle  with nice triggers, decent wood and lock.

Please post pictures of  the rifles you have.

Need some help, have money and going to WNS.

Tip has been to the WNS several times so if you called him you could find out if he was going again this year.

this is an older thread, so i dunno if you ordered or received yer rifle yet, but ... i have a tip curtis carolina flintlock that i ordered in-the-white last year.  i was also a bit concerned about taking it apart to finish the wood, but his craftsmanship is SUPERB and it both came apart and went back together easy as warm apple pie.  as far as the metal is concerned, i left it all to patina on its own, though pluming and bluing are very viable options.  she's a real .45 tack driver, too.

 2 years ago I brought the  Virginia  in the white with swamped 45  barrel .was excellent plus.

Tip makes these 4 at a time...duplicator..this one he calls a Tennesee southern blend..
it was a 36 cal. with a M & Lock..which has been flawless 2000 shots so far.
Pin the nose cap..and put a wood sealer on..they come stained only.
Found some pitting near the breech-sent it to Bob Hoyt..its now a 32 cal.1-40 twist
Straight shooting squirrel rifle it is!
This has figured ash wood.

I have looked at quite a few of Tips rifles, and recently stopped at his shop on my through that part of the world.  Tip produces a good rifle for a good price.

The downside is if you like a perfect finish, you wont get that with a gun that he finishes.  It will be good, but not great.  You are not paying for great, you only are paying for good.

This is not meant to disrespect Tip or his work, just a simply comment if you have never seen any of his rifle in person.

I would not hesitate to buy a rifle from Tip and almost did in March.

Given time and proper care a good finish will become a great finish. Patience grasshopper.

 I was there back in March also, Handled quite a few rifles. In my opinion you can not get a better fit or finish on a rifle. To me his rifles are as good if not better than the $3000.00+ rifles you see for sale on here or at T.o.t.W. and if I would have had $1250.00 on me I would have walked out with a rifle also.

It's my understanding that in the 18th century it was primarily "good finishes" and not many "great finishes".  HC/PC in action.

It is all in the eye of the beholder.  Tip does a great job with fitting the pieces and parts.  The attention to detail with the finish of the metal and wood for my taste can be improved quite a bit.   But I also don't like new rifles that are made to look like they are used and abused either.

Personal preference, I don't like grinding or sanding marks on the metal and the wood should not have marks in it as well.

I think Tip does a wonderful job of filling the marked he is in.  If he would of had a rifle I liked in the white, I would of bought one.  The finished one he had that I liked, I would of had to of redone the metal and wood finish for my taste.  No disrespect to Tip, just my opinion of what I like and want.
