I figured this thread went from a "shooting" thread to a "building" thread
Scott got his .54 smooth rifle (in the white) from J. Brown Monday.
We took it apart & sanded/polished all the parts over the past couple of days.
Browned the barrel, lock & buttplate. So far we're leaving the triggerguard in the white. Just polished.
We blued the screws for contrast. He took it home to sand the stock & we'll finish it up next week after I get back in town.
He's going to stain it & use linseed oil on the stock. I'll try to get some pictures next week.
Son Ethan asked me to help him build a rifle. He currently has a J. Brown .62 Fowler but he wants something that kicks a little less with roundballs.
He's been helping with the sanding & polishing.
We didn't get a lot done today because of electrical issues in the shop. I ran a long extension cord from the back porch to run the lights & fan. After 2 hours of troubleshooting we found a loose wire in a junction box. I did go through all the wiring from the house to the shop! Took advantage of the power being off while checking wires/continuity to install another outlet beside my workbench. This will make it more convienient to use power tools/worklights.
Wife is off for the next 5 days & I return to work/school next Tuesday so I guess I'll not be working in the shop for a few days.
