Dixon's Gunmakers Fair
« on: July 28, 2014, 04:19:26 AM »
I was at the 2014 edition of Dixon's Gunmakers' Fair. I had a great time. I got to see lots of old friends, and I also met quite a few magazine readers and video viewers. If you were one of them, thanks for taking the time to say, "Hi." I really enjoy meeting everyone. Knowing someone likes what you're putting out there makes it so much more fun.

I went to a great seminar on Lehigh Valley rifles, and I got to examine half a dozen original Lehighs. So now I'll at least know where my build is falling short...LOL

Here's a little video of the fair:

This would be my first post I believe.
I would like to say a special thanks to
Richard who gave the seminar on lehighs
sat morning. Your rifle is outstanding. Thank you for showing it.
thanks to John Cholin or longjohn.
your instructions are excellent.  I have started
making some tools already.  You are a master
and  my continuing attention.
Thanks also to Eric von A. Iam amazed
at your knowledge and skill. I hope I can
apply your drawing I bought and make a decent
rifle.

The bad. Sorry but this is how it is.

anyway the fair that the Dixons put on is excellent.

the only other suggestion I have is Richard
let Dave Keck copy your rifle from Sat morning.
so others could try to copy. Its that good.

Thanks for the nice video! I haven't had a chance to get back there since 1991, but it looks much the same. The fiddle & banjo music at the intro, took me back to those good old days. Maybe next year!

Great video , thank you! My daughter and I have been going for years and this year was no different. She is sixteen and truly looks forward to going. Once again we went all three days, just can't get enough. The people are hands down some of the very best people anybody would want to be with. We tried to get to every stand both under the tents and on the hill and still with going three days could not. Just goes to show you how much there is to offer at the fair. I am for the most part interested in the longrifle part of the fair but stop at all the other parts of the fair and glad we do. All the vendors and crafts are interesting , they explain and answer all my questions, some truly honest and humble people. I want to say thank you to all the volunteers who help park cars they are simple amazing. If you are on this site , if you can make it work pencil in the last full weekend in July 2015 you will not be disappointed.

Nice video. I was there all Friday afternoon. A few folks didn't make it. Beaver Bill wasn't there so I had to call him to get  2 hawks, belt and scalping knife. No Tip Curtis again this year. Miss him not being there. Also did not see Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading. Wanted to order a 54 Virginia with a 36 inch barrel for deer hunting. Oh well, guess I will just have to finish the Virginia that I got from Dave Keck, 54 cal 44 inch Rice swamped barrel.  I did get a beautiful horn from Pete Hutton. Will go nice with the York Rifle that is on my bench and soon to be finished.
