My good friend Jim Hash passed away today.
Many of the older members will probably remember him.
He was a great gunmaker, blacksmith, etc. and in the words of another great gunmaker, "a mechanical genius".
I will miss him greatly.

That's sad news, James. I didn't know Jim well, but always enjoyed talking to him when we crossed paths. My impression was of a very kind man. His work was beautiful as well. I'm sure he'll be missed.

I just heard the sad news from a friend a few minutes ago
Jim Hash was one of kind, a very talented person and a real gentleman
He will be missed and the world is a lesser place without him

I met him some 20 years ago at Friendship and he tended to keep in touch. He called me a few weeks ago. I wonder if it was a goodbye.

The newsman,Paul Harvey used to say we live in a society that discourages uncommon people
but when one passes away,we are all saddened to hear of it.I don't recall ever meeting him but
from the picture of him and his shop,we would have gotten along just fine. Our sincere condolences
to his survivors.

Knew Jim for many years, very talented guy. I talked to him several months ago, you could never have a short conversation
with him. The south also lost a good trooper, he was still fighting the war. He used to come up to the races at Port Royal,
1/2 mile dirt track, about 7 miles from my home. The picture above shows him as we always saw him. bib overalls. Over the
years he built some great rifles, Hard to believe we won't see him anymoe..........Don

Jim still loved cars, he showed me his 30/31 Ford sedan that had been turned into a 60's era chopped/channeled hot rod. Full race flat head engine with a blower. Jim said he quit building rifles because of eye problems, he said he couldn't see well enough to properly engrave but you should have seen the engraving on the top of that blower cover, fantastic! Then he showed me his home built "tractor" e/w a Ford Falcon 6 cyl engine, hydraulic 3 point hitch all hand crafted by Jim. He was a talented man.

A full race flathead Ford with a blower. I'll bet the main bearing
webs elongated when that blower kicked in.
Many years ago,at the insistence of the owner,we put a blower on
an MG TD and the crankshaft broke.It was a Rootes type blower
running at crankshaft speed X 8.He was told the whole idea was
a coming disaster and it was,an expensive one.

Very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I too met him years ago at Friendship. Over the years it was always nice when we happened to cross paths.
He was quite talented. Seemed to be able to do just about whatever he put his mind to.

I met him for the first, only, and last time at last years CLA show. Had a wonderful and Loooong conversation with him. He told me he knew he was going - Just having had surgery for cancer not too long before that. I feel richer for having met him and gotten just that little bit of him. Thank you for putting up the photos. Hope I see you on the other side Jim.

I traded a few emails with him a few years back. Seemed like a very likable gent. Sorry to hear of the loss.My sincere sympathy to his family.

I could not help notice the "hat" Jim is wearing in the photo. My eyes are not nearly as good as they once were, but I'm wondering if that is a Marine Corps Utility Cap and Jim was a Marine?

Sorry for the loss of your friend. If you have good photos of that rifle and pistol they sure look
nice. The forearm on the rifle looks super thin, the way I like em.

Am so sorry to hear about the loss of Jim...he was a talent.

As an aside: are there any more pictures of that RIFLE...I believe that I have that rifle in my possession. I obtained the rifle from Bill Fox who had the rifle built about "95".

Thank you. I met Ken Bresein in 1987 and went to his shop in Warsaw NY. He showed me a copy of a Stevens 44 or 44 1/2 action he was making up but product liability insurance stopped him from marketing it. Even if marked "Black Powder Only",Tweedle Dee,the wonder dummy would try to barrel it to .375 H&H magnum and then the fun would start.In 1987,he told me product liability insurance was $1000 a month,something no small shop could pay and stay in business.
