Barrel stamps

I have often thought about putting my name on the barrel of my gun  ( first one )  when I am getting close to the browning of the barrel.
I have noticed alot of the old gun builders put there names on their names on in block letters. Where does one purchase a set of the punches for this type work?

I know nothing about them, have never used them, I just quickly Googled them. Point is there are many many outfits that make stamps for marking steel.

late period guns were occasionally stamped. Most often guns of all periods were engraved...learn to engrave.

Depends on what nationality of guns we're talking about.

Names stamped IN the locks were usually the lock maker and the external name would be the maker or maker's company.I am thinking of upscale English guns. American locks frequently had the maker of the lock outside like Goulcher. Many were not marked inside or out side.

Thanks Gentlemen for all your replys. I was refering to the gun builders name on the barrels. Im trying to learn just how to build a longrifle first, then I can concentrate on engraving and carving.

Most early American work has the maker name engraved on the barrel. When you get into the 19th Century, you'll see roll stamped names.

I keep saving HSS bits we trash at work.  Figger i'll make a stamp or two of my own, proof-mark style.

But that's for other stuff.  I'll scratch my name onto the bbl, when i larn that trick!

Would love to see a really basic tutorial on the subject.
