Jacob Kunz pistol lock
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:57:30 PM »
I'm considering taking a shot at building a pistol patterned after these Jacob Kunz pistols http://jamesdjulia.com/item/lot-1496-pair-of-philadelphia-jacob-kunz-1780-1876-signed-flintlock-pistols-48258/.  My questions are about the locks on these pistols.  They're both marked WARRANTED BY KONIGMACHER & CO which was a Philadelphia company from what I can find out.  Do you think Konigmacher made these locks?  They look and awful lot like a Manton English lock to me.  Would it be possible that these are English locks that were just purchased by Konigmacher and then stamped WARRANTED BY KONIGMACHER & CO for resale?

moleeyes36; Good afternoon.  Sir, I to like the styling of the Kunz family of their pistol styling. If you have access to the book "Kentucky Rifles & Pistols 1750 - 1850". On pages Number 215 - 222 - 240 and 246 are some very good pictures which may help. Published by, "Golden Age Arms Company and James R. Johnston 1976". As for pistol locks to be found, good luck. I've been looking for a pistol size lock with a safety, have had no luck. Keep us posted if you build a Knuz style pistol. Have a great day. AJ.

AJ,

I see that Track of the Wolf has reprints of this book for $35.  Does the book give the basic details to the guns shown, i.e., dimensions?  Thanks.

No Sir, primarily a visual aid. I'll look in some of my older books. AJ.
