Nose cap
« on: January 25, 2015, 02:58:26 AM »
Anyone know of a commercially available "chevron" style nose cap such as those in the Muzzleloaders builders supply catalogue but that are "iron" rather than brass or silver?

Secondly, on an iron mounted southern rifle would a heavily aged silver chevron nose cap be a bad idea?  Somewhere I seem to recall seeing something like that and it looked pretty good??

Neither Track of the Wolf or Ted Cash list a "chevron" style nose cap in steel.  Don't know who else to try.  How about a poured pewter nose cap in a chevron pattern?

I'd try pouring one out of pewter.  Pewter nosecaps are very sensible for muzzleloaders as it was a common workable metal back in the day.
Many of them cried; "Me no Alamo - Me no Goliad", and for most of them these were the last words they spoke.

EXCELLENT idea.  Never considered pewter!  Thanks.
