Before shooting my rifle for the first time should I open up the flash hole in my white lightning vent liner? Seems that I read on another post that the white lightning is made small on purpose. Wouldn't want my first pull of the trigger to be a miss fire. Leon

I wouldn't open it up until I had the miss fire! Then I go on to say that I usually end up opening mine up to .0625" (1/16") on most of my rifles. If if fires consistently without opening it up LEAVE IT ALONE!

I think the reason Jim has them made small is to satisfy some of the competitive shooters that prefer them small. That should tell you something, plus you can always open them up.

Leon,
I do open mine up to a 1/16" before I even test fire it.  I don't build guns for compitition shooting.   I also take a #50 drill bit and a small portable drill with me to the range.  Any pan flashes and I go to a #50.  Next is a 5/64th size bit.  I only have one gun that's 5/64th.  Be aware that 5/64th vent hole and 3F will result in a self priming gun.
I'm with Dennis though.  If it shoots fine then don't mess with it until you see you need to.  Easy to make the hole bigger.  It really bites to go the other way.

I opened my White lightnin up to .078, and it goes off terrifically well. I pepper everyone to my right with 2f. This means I may have opened it up too much, as I am losing pressure out the vent. The bigger the hole, the more pressure loss and change in velocity, and this ultimately shows up as vertical stringing on the target. That is, if you can keep from poking the gun at the target....

I open mine up to 1/16 and then just break the outer edge of the hole with a #1 center drill in a hand crank hand drill. Lots of times taking off that little square shoulder of the hole will be just whats needed without making the hole any larger. Once the hole burns out to pass a #51 drill bit I replace them. However I am a competitive shooter and need the consistency.

If installed right it should be fine. If you set it in too deep thats another matter.
No reason for it to be over 1/16".
Just use enough priming.
