Paneled Horn 2/15
« on: February 15, 2015, 11:02:57 PM »
The other day I posted this:

 http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=34423.msg330465#msg330465

on putting panels on a horn. The last Pic in it shows the start of the process. This is the finished horn.

The horn is about 13” around the outside curve and 11” tip to tip. The base is Maple held in with 16 Brass tacks. The tip is applied and held in place with 3 Steel pins. The color is a combination of Dyes finished with a little BLO and Soot from an oil lamp.

Thanks David, the Base/Tack combination idea came from your horn.TC

Those colors blended out nicely. Good looking horn.

Beautiful colors and the second high dome base that I like. They are not usually on my list but both yours and Dave's look really good. Nicely done!

I agree that I like the horn but I'm not a fan of the high domed plug. Just me and my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it!  ::)

Tim, I'm enjoying the last few horn posts by you, and David's as well, of these different sort of oddball horns.  They are very believable and I think their sort of ugliness and uniqueness is appealing. Not that I've seen or handled a tremendous amount of original horns, but I've seen way more that were like these than I've seen of horns that are more cosmetically appealing to the eye, if that makes sense. Keep em coming...
