This style is challenging......LOTS of transitions to get right.....one minute I think "kentucky rifle".... And the next, I'm thinking Spanish blunderbuss!!!!

These things are supposed to be "solid".
The one I built had a buttplate that weighed about a pound, but when finished the whole thing balanced nicely.
BTW, a horn nosecap makes a nice touch also.

Not sure of your question Ken.....the TG to the rear is not all the way down, or even inletted yet....step wrist is ruff right now :-[
Looks uggy, but the rasp will have its day!!!

The wrist is still some fat, as is the butt stock, typical "remove wood, look at it for a couple of days" routine I have.....i soldered the TG also, so it may be a lump of solder....I just cleaned it back down....it seems to have filled those tiny voids from stress.....
It'll be a while till I get back on this, I need to sharpen ALL my planes and chisels.....just got in some new water stones.....and I have been putting it off......*sigh*......

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike, tomtom can REALLY brown barrels with his own special chemicals ::)

I will be doing some carving on this one, and wish tomtom and I both could have you in the shop to instruct us!!!

Ken :D...my eyes too!

I have removed the solder on it, and re-polished to the brass.....I haven't inlet it at all cause I want to round the front edge, then bevel it. Then I can inlet her.
That trigger needs to be cleaned up, and drilled for a rear screw.
Butt area.....do I taper the sides all the way to the wrist area? Or are they flat....then "scoop" into the wrist?
Do to many Lancasters......my eyes and hands aren't working together.....

Marc

You really need to narrow your focus a little ,merely saying "Christian Springs" covers way too much ground."Christian Springs" covers many different builders over a long time period. While they are are related they are each unique in their own ways.Focus on one particular original gun in one time period by one builder that you find appealing and I think you will find the shaping much easier. One of the best critiques on a Dixons critique sheets is"Needs to study more originals".Study some original Christian Springs guns in person if you can or at least in books and narrow your focus and I think you will have an easier time making a believable "Christian Springs" rifle .
