Many years ago I had a very nice 1/2 stock (walnut) rifle signed "Joel Hapgood"
His shop was on Washington st..  Could be a spelling error somewhere along the line .

The contents of his house and estate were sold by a local auctioneer just about 3 weeks ago. The only interesting things, aside from a portrait of him, were three advertising broadsides in new condition.

JV  Can I assume you bought the portrait and advertising pieces?  Given the
opportunity, I would have.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Working on a book about Joab's nephew Warren Hapgood and the Monomoy Branting Club. Do you have the Joab portrait which I would like to see or any more information about him.  I wish I could find Cousin's piece about Joab.

We bought the advertising pieces for a friend and didn't get the portrait, which if I remember correctly, was really terrible.

A. Merwin Careys book lists him as Joel Hapgood. If the signature is not too clear Joel could perhaps be read as Joab????
