Dennis McCandless

Does anyone know if Dennis is still in business. I'm looking for someone who can
make an English style/Nocks recessed breech plug to match the profile of the one on my Pedersoli Mortimer shotgun. I want to put a rifled barrel on it.

I read that he retired several years ago.

I think he retired a couple of years ago. About three years ago he made a couplke of breech plugs for me and it was the year after that I think when he called it quits. He did a great job on mine.

Duane:

Kerry Stottlemyer made two left-handed English-style breeches-and-tangs as part of my matched set of English Big Bore Express rifles. At the time I could identify no breech set of  this type for 1.25-inch barrels left-handed. I furnished him with an Allen right-handed set, plus some special instructions - that is, features different from what he was emulating. Here is a result of this job http://www.klstottlemyer.com/klstottlemyer.com/Past_&_Present_Projects/Pages/Alexander_Henry.html. The link will take you to his web site HOME page.

Be advised: Mr. Stottlemyer does firearms-related work part time.

Hope this helps.

I considered that, but their barrel is .54 and I want a .58. I'd like a shorter barrel more in line with barrel lengths on English sporting rifles around 30". The Pedersoli is 36. I realize that the barrel could be cut down and freshed out, but given the anticipated cost of the barrel itself, by the time I'm done I'd have way too much money into it. I'm also a bit concerned about whether or not the touch hole in the new barrel
would line up. That would not be easily corrected. I also considered getting a Pedersoli plug (if available)but then there's the issue of the metric threads.
