Barrel re-lining question
« on: May 25, 2015, 11:14:44 PM »
So, I'm going to have my .58 caliber barrel re-lined to .50 by Bobby Hoyt.  The .58 is on one of my rifles now and it is a flintlock.  Here is my question for those of you who may have had this done.  After the liner goes in the barrel, is it just a matter of drilling the touch hole through the liner to ensure proper ignition?

Better off to put in a touchhole liner.

This may sound silly, but, wouldn't a new barrel be cheaper? I've seen this question on this forum several times, and can't fathom why anyone would put themselves through this, when you can just buy a new barrel.

Hungry, I can think of several reasons.  Maybe the barrel is not straight, and swamped barrels don't always swap out as you think they would.  Then the lugs, sights, and finishing.

I think I would want a vent liner to go into the liner.  Ask Bob he has way more experience with this than anyone I know.
