missing corner

 Cleaning the butt plate and a corner is missing. How should i weld the corner with arc or MiG. I find the metal from the casting soft don't want to make it worse

Use a wire welder.  Just a couple short zips & you will have it done. Go more than ya need & then file/grind it back to shape.  Take longer to set up the stuff to weld it that to do the job.
