Here are a few pictures of the Jeager that I just completed. There were several first for me on this project. My first Jaeger, first time using English walnut, first time using water buffalo horn, I enjoyed using them all. These pictures were taken with my I-Phone so they are not the best but I hope you enjoy them.

The barrel is a Rice 31" 62 cal.
Davis Lock and modified triggers
Butt plate, guard, side plate and thimbles were from Ron Scott
Stock Blank came from Ron Scott
Check inlay, thumb plate and wire inlay were cut from sterling silver sheet.
Nose cap and ram rod tip are of water buffalo horn
Rear sight is a two leaf jaeger site that I builf from castings
Front sight is a brass base with a sterling silver blade

Ram rod has a threaded tip on the other end with 10/32 threads for jag - made by Darrin Mcdonal - instlled by yours truely
Sterling silver wire inlaid into the tang.

This turned out to be a very nice handeling rifle. I will range test is next week when I get back from the KRA show.

From where I sit, it's one fine looking gun in all respects. Nice detail on the nose cap.

Super job overall! I'm impressed with the forestock moulding extending into the horn nosecap, too! Is the metal patchbox inlay a casting?

Yes the patch box inlay is a casting. I soldered a lug to the back side, the inlay is held in place with a short 8/32 bolt. I believe the original was attached this way.

That's a really fine job. Seems like the extended moulding on the nose cap caught everybody's attention.

To my untrained eye, the small amount of wire work is especially nice. It accentuates the carving and is very attractive to me. Thanks for sharing.

Truly a work of art Jim. And I know it will be an awesome hunting weapon.

I like that butt plate work too. The nose cap treatment is especially elegant. The new owner will surely have a rifle he can be proud of.

Is the stock wood English walnut?

Bama: I love that rifle! Your choice of wood is excellent, and makes a huge difference in the credibility of the rifle. Your use of the spiral volute was no mean feat too, and well executed. Lots of little details that are enormously time consuming.

Thanks Taylor. I am a great admirer of your work and was hesitant to post this rifle after seeing yours and Jerry's rifles. I am happy with the way this rifle turned out. The English Walnut was a pleasure to work with. I think i got the best of the blank with my layout and the figure showed wonderfully. I will look forward to my next opportunity to use English Walnut again.

Nice rifle Jim! I sure hope you kept that cutoff piece. Looks like enough wood to make a couple nice Reelfoot style duck calls

I do not throw any wood away. I have a 55 gal drum full of blank trimmings. I need to figure out something to make from these scrap pieces. Never thought about duck calls but thats an idea.

Rolf the finish is an oil finish that i get from Brownell's called "Classic Red" and is applied by hand. There are about 12 coats of hand rubbed oil on this rifle. Each coat is buffed out after setting for a day to dry with an old terrycloth towel. After i finished applying the last coat of finish and it had dried and had been buffed out i applied several coats of Johnsons Paste wax. I love the color that the Classic Red finish gives and do not mind the labor of applying this finish.
