breech plug

I want to rebarrel an older piece and reuse the english style fixed tang breechplug. The plug is metric around 3/4". The barrel I have has been taken off another gun and is threaded 5/8"x18. Is it possible to have the plug turned down and rethreaded?

 It is possible. The question should be who could do it and what would the price be. Chucking it is a chore and takes some know how.

It would be easier to cut metric threads in the barrel.  It would require a lathe capable of cutting metric or purchase a tap.  Also the minor diameter of the plug needs to be greater than .625".  Either way it will require someone that understands muzzle loaders and is a good machinist.

Turns out TOW will cut metric threads in a barrel. Thanks for the tip!
