Just finished this one up. .36 cal. 13/16" X 42"Green mt. barrel. Chambers Ketland lock, Sugar tree curly blank & steel hand forged trim by me. 8 lb. Take a look and say what you think. Went for a sort a "Carolina" style on it.

Very nice. I really like the color you achieved. Is the barrel 42inches? From the angle in the picture it appears shorter.

Got out to range this morning with the .36, Not bad for first few shots.
Off bench at 15 yd. 30gr. 3f, .010 patch & .350 Hornaday ball.
It should do better after working up a good load.
Never fired a .36 before--zero recoil of course, and brass front site really shines.

Beautiful. That is the color/finish of both wood and metal I am chasing on my current build. Could you elaborate on your process?

Sweeney, Painted on a coat of aqua fortis. let it set 1 hour, heated it with my heat gun until it looked pretty dark to bring out stripes. Rubbed it back with 0000 steel wool until wood, not curl lightened right up. Whiskered wood 2 times over boiling water, again buff with steel wool. Painted on a coat of Laurel mt. Honey maple stain, let set 1 day. Buff again with 0000. Hand rub linseed oil until your palm is really warm. Do that once a day for week ---- or more. Wait at least a week before waxing......Been doing it this way since 1961 with an M-1 rifle........Tom

That is pushin it some

.....44-40 cold blue let stand all night & rub back with 0000 steel wool soaked in 10 wt. oil. Until you get a nice uneven gray color. It will darken to a nice patina over time & just needs a little lite oil....Tom
