Antique bag for shot

Picked this up recently and thought you might like to see it.  Leather embossed with scene of hanging game.  Both sides of the bag have the same scene and the halves are sewn together.  The paddle looking thing is a spring that keeps the cap/shot measure in place.  OAL 7-1/8" width of bag 3-3/16"

Hi Steve,

Nope, no valve in the flask.  I think the way it was used was to hold the flask with the brass parts up, remove the cap/measure, pour shot into the measure, pour measured shot down the bore, replace the flask cap.  The spring that retains the cap is very strong and fits into a groove in the brass throat.  I can't pull it out without depressing the spring.  Once the cap is in place, the shot isn't coming out.

That's a nice one Ky and looks to be in good shape!!! I have on with a different spout and the leather is kind of brittle in places, but I think its pretty cool just to look at.

Both the powder and shot flask were originally made by either Dixon or Hawksley (sp?)...
I have the Dixon shot flask posted by Robby and the Hawksley powder flask for my fowler.

htredneck, This one has , AM. FLASK & CAP Co.  on the spout. The  'M.' may not be correct, as it seems to be a bit distorted, but that is what it looks like to me.

The English flask top shown is definitely an American Flask and Cap flask. I have 4-5 of the hanging game flasks in both leather and brass but I don't recall seeing one with an Irish head on it. Possibly someone put that one together using an old top and a leather flask body. Nothing new about that, re purposing parts is pretty common.

Thanks for all the comments.  Thanks Hammer for providing the name of the top design.  There are no markings on the brass top.  The leather where the top goes in is stamped with lb or 1b and under that is a 9 followed by 1/2 (I think). It's very small lettering.
