European Powder flask
« on: July 29, 2015, 10:51:49 PM »
I have not posted in a while, but wanted to share my donation to the HCH Auction of the Masters for March 2016.  This is a large powder flask in the European style with an integral valve and mechanical mechanism made of horn and fitted to the body by a figured walnut housing.  The body is comprised of a horn band sandwiched between figured walnut panels which are adorned with European stag rosette rounds, scrimshawed with a fleeing boar on the obverse and a oak wealth on the reverse.  The flask hangs on a braided leather strap and is attached by turned and carved antler rings by a brass oak leaf, rat-tail hangers.  The cord joins beneath the flask with a leather Spanish knot ending in turned horn and boar hair tassels.  Thank you for looking.

CD; Good afternoon , Sir, I find your craft menship outstanding. The 20th. HCH turned out great. Some lucky bidder is going to be proud to own the European style flask. Thanks for sharing. What is the diameter of the HCH 20th. Thanks, AJ.

Thank you for the compliment.  The red stag round on the reverse is about 2" if memory serves.  The round on the obverse is just over 2.75.

Carl,
I studied it at dixons in the early hours before the crowds arrived. It was in the top items I saw all weekend there. Aside from the boar image and the obviously beautiful construction, I especially loved the the stopper made from antler and wood.

Carl, as beautiful as this flask is it is an inspiration to all of us that had a chance to see this in person at Dixons.  Excellent my friend, excellent.
