Planning new build questions?
« on: August 14, 2015, 11:35:31 PM »
Planning a new build around an octagon / round smooth .62 barrel. Looking at no. 90 in RCA vol. II, attributed to George Shroyer. Description says lock is a modern replacement. What would be appropriate style lock for this piece. The other guns attributed to Shroyer in the same volume show a mix of  Germanic and English style locks. I was leaning towards a Chamber's early Ketland style but since the hardware looks very Jaeger to my untrained eye would a German style be more appropriate? What would be a good source for triggergaurd and butt plate? Would value some experienced advice.

Take a look at Chambers "Dale Johnson" lock. It has the early Germanic style but not as drastic on the curve of the lock plate as some of the others. Sort of a cross between a Jaeger and a Siler.
