I stained it by first coating the stock with tannic acid as decribed here in Jim Kiblers great blog http://www.jimkibler.net/blog/2014/10/19/staining-and-finishing-burl-maple  and then treating it with two coats of home made Nitrate of Iron Stain.Then a coat of seed lac and finished with Jim Chambers oil finish on top of that.

Beautiful job Mitch. The color contrast in the curl is outstanding! I'm going to have to experiment with the process and try it out on the Bucks Co rifle I'm working on. Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully done. Love the finish. The wire inlay is really pleasing too. You are giving me some ideas on how to solve some problems on my current build.
