Pistol after Henry Albright
« on: August 25, 2015, 09:48:43 PM »
This a pistol I finished up and delivered at the CLA Show.It is based on the work of Henry Albright (1775-1845)who worked in Lancaster and later Shippensburg PA.Some believe Henry worked with Jacob Dickert during his time in Lancaster. The pistol is'nt an exact copy of any one Albright pistol but draws from several that survive. As always all comments and questions are welcome.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Wow!  Really like this pistol, Mitch!  The over all finish and look is really appealing.  Love the side plate and wrist inlays.  Great looking pistol!

Thanks guys!!! ;D

The buttcap came from York County Firelocks, the trigger guard is a heavily modified guard from Reeves Gorhing's reject pile.It had a bunch of casting flaws so I cold forged the front and rear extensions and then refiled them to match the profile of an original Albright guard.I made the rest of the brass hardware from sheet.

I've never really had flintlock pistol lust before, but that pistol sure gets my attention.  I am not sure just what it is, other than everything just hangs together for a fantastic "whole".  I am a nobody, but that is one beautiful work to my eyes.  Best wishes and God Bless,  Marc

Very nice work. What size and length is the barrel? It appears to be swamped and tapered.
Thanks for showing it!

Thanks for all the kind words, can't take credit for the artwork as it's all based off of H.Albrights work.

Andy
the barrel is a 10" .54 tapered and flared barrel.I'm sorry I don't remember the exact dimensions but it is a Charlie Burton barrel,if your check with him he may be able to get that info for you.

Horston

I first applied a solution of tannic acid and then two coats of my homemade Nitrate of Iron stain. Then a seal coat of seed lac and then multiple coats of Tried and True varnish Oil.
