This is a very timely post and tutorial for me, as I'm just about to start an open-end nosecap on a Lehigh rifle I'm working on.
This picture is a variation on the same theme. I took this pic of an original Lehigh rifle at Dixon's earlier this year. Instead of the ends of the brass sheet coming together in the barrel channel, they overlap underneath in the ramrod groove, as shown, and are retained by rivets through the ramrod groove. Eric von Aschwege was also there and showed me a Lehigh rifle he made using the same technique, overlapping the ends of the brass in the ramrod groove and fixing with two rivets.
