My son's first build with pictures
« on: September 12, 2015, 12:38:57 AM »
My son has come to help me in my shop and this is his first build. I think he did a very good job please make him feel welcomed.

I have had these parts in my shop for some time and he wanted to build something so here are the results.

Kentucky Fowler by Derek

Colerain 62 cal Octagon to to Round tapered barrel
L&R English Lock
Simple Trigger
Maple stock
Iron butt plate, trigger guard, and thimbles
Brass band at nose cap location

This is the first shot out of the gun at 25 yards. I only had one 62 cal ball laying around, we will fire a few more later when I get some cast up. It fired super fast, I have a video of Derek firing it the first time and am going to post it on You Tube. Search under Calvary Longrifle LLC videos.

Really nice first gun Derek! Welcome to the forum and please do show us how she shoots after you've punched some paper with it.

Outstanding job Derick. You have made your father very proud,  as well as all of us. We all love to see the younger generation get involved in building these fine guns and many wish their first gun was this nice. Congratulations you have a fine mentor and he's as lucky as you all . Keep up the good work.

Very nicely done - very good workmanship ;) On the next fowler leave the brass band at the muzzle off - to me it distracts from the gun's overall great looks - just my 2-cents.

Some kind of first timer gun!   Well done, to both builder and teacher.

God Bless and best wishes,   Marc

Derek, that is a fine job you did on your first muzzle loader. Anyone would be proud to own that one!
