Seems to me that long ago replica muzzleloaders started flooding into America.  Most were European made and very cheap in cost.

If a breech plug was made coned, it is probably for the same reason that many other various parts on various replica guns either worked miserably or did not work well at all,  for a high proportion of the sales.  THE MAKERS JUST DID NOT KNOW ANY BETTER.

These guns were sold on the cheap because they were.

Regarding the original question as to whether coned breech faces are "PC"  this is open to interpretation.  If they were never or extremely seldom used on colonial Longrifles, but existed somewhere in the world at that time, works that be good enough for you?  I always wonder what timeframe is being considered with these questions.

Undoubtedly there were still wheel locks being made somewhere in the world during colonial times.  So would a wheel lock be PC for a colonial longrifle?    Don't need an answer.  Just pointing out the broad nature of the PC questions.
