Tomahawk assembly
« on: November 06, 2015, 07:08:25 AM »
A friend brought me a brass tomahawk head and a nice curly maple handle blank, and asked if I could put it together and stain it for him. He is giving it to his Dad, so it will be just a display piece. My concern is that the head has no taper where the handle goes through. Should I use a wedge to keep the handle tight, or is there a better way. I checked the pipe hawk I own, and it looks like there is approx. 1/8th inch of taper where the handle goes on that one. Any suggestions will be appreciated, as this is a little out of my norm. Thanks, Mike

You could file a taper in the head, it doesn't take much. Another option would be to pin it with Brass pins and file them flush.
