Joseph Mills Rifle

Hello to all and thanks in advance for helping me.
I am a dealer in antique and collectable firearms. I generally buy collections of guns, the resell them on the Internet and locally. Almost everything I buy are cartridge guns, but sometimes I get a few muzzleloaders and occasionally a nice antique long rifle. That is why I am here today.
I just acquired a nice rifle that I would like some information on.
It is marked Joseph Mills in nice fine engraving on top of the barrel. The lock is marked J M with kind of a star in between. I miked between the grooves it was .42 caliber. I will try to post pictures and answer any questions about the gun.

My guess is also that this is a Bedford Co. gun. Probably Joe Mills Jr. rather than Sr. as most of Joe Mills Sr. guns had the typical rattail lock of many Bedford Co. guns. James B. Wiskers book with many illustrations of Joeseph Mills guns show quite a few with the same style patchbox, without the cross hatched sections. This leads me to thing it's juniors work.

Weird that only Buck responded and now it gets picked up 8 months later.  Would it have been a flintlock originally?
