warped stock blank

i started this rifle about a year ago.  I had the the barrel channel inletted and had to set the project aside.  Now when I have the time to get back to it....I discovered that the stock has warped.  This is a nice piece of wood and I can't just toss it, not to mention the hours of labor invested so far. It's my first swamped barrel inlet job...and it gave me fits! The question is, what can I do to work this out? It's about 3/16th inch to one side on a 42" barrel.

Is it just bowed or is there a twist to it too?

Go ahead and "slab" off the sides of the fore end to get rid of the excess wood and put the barrel in.  The wood may straighten itself out, or it may not, but it doesn't really matter.  Just make sure you have the barrel in place to keep it straight for doing any other operations like cutting the ramrod groove, assuming you haven't done so already.

If the barrel goes in,  don't worry about it.  Keep going.  As you remove more wood, the warp will be less of an issue.
