M&G Classic lock
« on: February 26, 2016, 03:48:58 AM »
I did a search on here for information on M&G Classic locks and found some older posts. Does anyone on here have any recent experience using these locks? Just curious what the quality of these locks is. My favorite lock is the Chambers Dale Johnson and will probably use that lock or a deluxe Siler. I thought I may try something different this time, but it's hard to top a Chambers Lock. What's your opinion?
Thanks

M&G is The Mold & Gun Shop. I've had several and they've all worked very good. Larry Zorne from south Ohio (Portsmouth I think) makes them. He also assembles locks for Davis. That's about all I know about them.

I've not used one, but I've looked at them a few times, and they look pretty nice.  As I recall (been mostly out of this for a couple years now)  they have a mid 18th century French/continental lock that really looked good.

Thanks for the input. I have seen them listed on the Davis and MBS web sites. I'll have to make a point to look at them in person sometime.

I've used a couple of them. I like 'em. They spark really well and the extra thick pan bolster (is that the right term?) is nice so the lock stands off from the bbl a ways and the mainspring doesn't interfere as it sometimes can.
Plus it's another lock to use so they all don't look the same.

I've used several of them. The look best on barrels up to 7/8" at the breech. They are very close in size to the old Haddaway locks from years past. They are consistently FAST too. They come with a plain lock plate which has enough room to round over for a late English look if you want to build that style.
