Nice link thanks for sharing.
I pulled it up and found no fault with it. A gun lock is a ratchet that
functions by compressing a spring by rotating a lever, the hammer
or cock as some call it.It can be a very basic mechanism as frequently
seen on old American guns or a work of art as seen in the fine English
types recently seen on this forum. The current locks produced by makers
today are much better than what was available to builders 40 years ago.
Investment cast locks at first were frequently a headache due to foundries
that had NO idea as to the function of these little, oddly shaped parts but
it appears that the quest for better components by the makers of these locks
has been rewarded by a higher level of quality across the spectrum.
The assemblers of these locks now have a much better product to offer a
rifle maker than ever before. Years ago I got a lot of requests to make new
mainsprings for these locks but haven't had any for a long time. That says
the quality is better or my steady refusal to make them has spread.
I am coming to the end of the lock making on any regular basis and will
probably post on this forum if I have anything ready to send to a buyer.
Also I won't "discount" prices. I see no reasonto pay anyone to buy what
little work I turn out.
