Hawken rib solder fill

On my Hawken the rib is solid on the muzzle end. As you know the real ones have a solder fill on the end. I assume you grind out the half circle on the end of the rib maybe 1/4" deep. Prep and tin and fill with solder and then clean up. Do you guys do this before finishing? What would the best type of solder to use? Thanks, Dan

Taylor solder-fills the end of the hollow ribs that are riveted on. I've never known him to "phony up" a solid rib.
As for solder, a silver bearing low temp is good. or 50/50, I guess. It really doesn't matter, does it?

Sure.  I do it as you say, plus drill shallow holes in the taper so the solder holds.  Do it before finishing.  I do it off the barrel.  Any solder.

The Hershel House Hawken is a solid rib that has been filed and filled with solder just like you described.
