Tools Needed - Kibler's kit
« on: June 27, 2016, 07:46:55 PM »
Ok, lets assume absolutely no prior gun building experience and no tools, what is going to be needed  to build this kit when it finally arrives.

I know there are a few holes to be drilled and also some taps needed, what are they ?  I have the taps but sharp drill bits are very rare in my shop.

Main spring compressor for the lock so you can take the lock apart ?  I know you can do it with some C-clamps and some wooden wedges but I am buying the proper tool this time around.

Files, any files I own are 40+ years old, cheap when they were new and work great on butter on a hot summer day, on metal ? they don't work so well.   I have seen conflicting information on the dovetails for the underlugs and sights, if I have to cut those I will need sharp files or a dovetail cutter for my mill (its a small 3-in-1 mill-lathe).  But I have read the dovetails are already done.

Rasps, I don't own any but I assume I don't need any for this kit.

Chisels, what will I need to clean up any inletting if any at all or any other work.  My chisels tend to be larger chisels for woodworking on 2x4's :)  I am thinking of going to my local woodworking store and buying a carving chisel set.

So really the only item on this list that is unique to gun building is the lock spring compressor.  What else might be needed ?

Well I missed it on Jim's website, I thought I had seen every page there and seen them many times back when I purchased the kit. Thanks.

always buy the best, cry once and use them forever.

 I didn't always do that when I was a teenager, but I learned :)
