Hawksley 3 way flask
« on: August 02, 2016, 05:06:32 PM »
Here's a nice little 4.5 inch pistol flask by G & J W Hawksley copper and brass for carrying
ball, cap and powder.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Is that something that would have been part of a cased set?

Yes I believe so. I was shown an example of an English set with this flask

Above is a picture of a similar flask, this one by Dixon and Sons.  One of the compartments is shallow and holds a number of percussion caps, while the other is deeper and holds several .50 cal round balls.  I use mine for loading my pistols.

They are set up the same way. Just about big enough to reload your six shooter one time

Shreck:  I wondered if that was the thinking of this little flask.  It surely makes good sense.  On the other hand, this would serve a percussion overcoat pistol in fairly small calibre for five or six shots.

I saw this flask in a boxed set with overcoat pistol from the 1840s.
