Bill Carter, Don Fererro (both good friends and fellow Journeyman Horners) and I were able to "handle" the Issac Chalker Ackley powder horn in the Marine Corps museum a couple of years ago. We agreed to make an "artisan's take" on that horn. We tried to capture the essence of the original horn, but we did make a few adjustments.

We hope you like it.

Gentleman I would say you captured the look all right that is one nice-looking horn. That would fit right in Jim dressler's book

Lovely work from the "Southern Department"! Are you three going to bring it to Dixon"s for show and tell? I would love to see it in hand.

Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

Mr. Bones,
All of the views are of the replica horn. I was not clear, so your misunderstanding that one is the original is noted and I will correct that in the image.
Thanks.

Rick

I was going to say, they both look fantastic.

BTW, do you mark your reproduction horns with any telltale so that people someday don't mistake them for originals (or try to pass them off as such)?

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

I sign my work as do most makers. Don't worry there are a LOT of modern touches throughout. I can't imagine any serious person mistaking my work for an original.
I will take your question as a compliment though.
