In the planning stage for building my second rifle. Would appreciate any comments/photos on how a Rice 38" transition series swamped  "C" weight barrel might look in an Isaac Haines stock. My 1st build was a 42" swamped barrel and I am concerned that the shorter barrel might look a little chunky. Or are there thousands out there with these specs. Never thought about until now that I am ready to pull out my wallet.

I have built Isaac Haines rifles with both 42" and 38" barrels, and neither of them are 'chunky'.  But I prefer the lines of the longer barrel and forestock.  BTW, welcome to this site!!

I used a .54 cal 38" C profile Rice barrel for an early Jacob Dickert and I don't think it looks chunky plus it a great handling hunting rifle. Prefer it to the 42 and 44 inch ones that I have owned over the years.

The 38" barrel will give you a finished gun about the same length as a modern pump shotgun. It's a nice length for people more accustomed to modern guns, or have compact vehicles.  BJH

Welcome to ALR.

As others have said, the "look" of the 38" C-weight barrel will be fine.  The way the finished rifle "handles" will depend on the caliber you choose.  My favorite deer rifle is an Isaac Haines with a 38" B-weight in .50 caliber.  The weight of my rifle is probably very similar to Dennis' 38" C in .54

I think itd make a nice hunting gun with some thump to it...

I'm working on an  ca 1760 English rifle with a 31" barrel. I'll be doing one with a 29" barrel after that. They won't be chunky.....
Here's one I did with a 38" barrel about a year ago.
