Ithaca Hawkens

a real good friend gave me an Ithaca Hawkens rifle today for my birthday, and i understand its copied from Kit Carsons gun. i was wondering if y'all new much about them?

Man that be one helluva nice friend. All I ever heard of this rifle was very positive.

i've owned one myself, and it was a tack driver.  it was .53 cal...shot a .526 ball and .020 denim patch.  for a production rifle, it was well made.
pls. forgive the typing...had surgery on my left hand this afternoon, so i'm one fingering this...index - not middle.

for the record, i just had a Dupatron's contracture repaired.  the little pinky on my left hand was pulled up to a 90 degree bend and the tendons knotted.  the surgeon removed the offending tendons and now my finger is straight again.  so my arm is tied into sling and i type with one right handed index finger...quite a feat for a lefty. i appreciate your kind wishes.
