Allan Foundry underhammer build
« on: August 18, 2016, 07:46:16 AM »
I'm in the middle of building an underhammer gun, based on an underhammer lock by the Allan Foundry.  I've been lurking here for some time, picking up lots of great information, but I'm not sure this is the place to discuss this particular build since it's not a traditional rifle.

I don't want to start a flame war, or pollute the forum with stuff that doesn't belong.  This is a hunting rifle intended for a December 2016 hunt, so time short and the focus is function over artistry.  In any event I appreciate the fine work and techniques discussed here.

Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the ALR forum.  The mission of this site is to discuss topics relevant to American long rifles, including firearms that influenced their development and other side lock firearms that were concurrent with long rifles or that evolved from them.  That rules out underhammers.  The mission is not meant to be elitist but simply to keep our focus narrowed.  As someone who built an underhammer, I share your quest for information and let me suggest that a Google search for "traditional muzzleloading" will lead you to a forum where underhammer guns are often discussed.

Good luck,

Dave said it better that I could have.  And J Henry has a good suggestion.  To prevent further discussion on this disallowed topic, I am locking this thread.

Brian,
It seems awkward to say given the above, but welcome to ALR.  If you have any questions regarding the American longrifle, this is the place.  I hope you will find ALR worthwhile.
