Ampco vent liner attracted to magnet?
« on: September 15, 2016, 05:31:52 AM »
A friend picked up a couple of vent liners for me at Friendship.  I noticed that they aren't attracted to my magnetic screw driver bits like other liners I have used.

Would these be Ampco liners?  If not, any guesses what material they are made of?

Best regards, Skychief

PS, while we are at it, what exactly are Ampco liners made of?

If your vent liners are brass colored they are made of ampco metal.  Ampco is the name of a company that makes bronze alloy metals.  Ampco metals are bronze which has been alloyed with other metals; aluminum, magnesium, nickel-aluminum, etc.  There are many different alloys with differing properties.  The material used for nipples is chosen for resistance to corrosion and deforming.  Being based of bronze it dissapates heat quickly.

If your liners are silver they would be stainless steel of an alloy also chosen for resistance to corrosion and deforming.  Not all stainless alloys are non-magnetic.
