Straight and Cross pein hammer
« on: November 10, 2016, 03:29:00 AM »
I needed a light straight and cross pein hammer for cold forging the trigger and other parts. I found an old brick layers hammer head in my junk so I did some cutting with my 4 1/2" angle grinder and finished it up on my disc sander. I was able to keep the temper in the head when I cut and finished it. I polished the ends with a blending wheel on my pedestal grinder. I made a handle from a piece of hickory I had. Here are some photos.

Thanks, Mark

You can buy some sets of ball pein hammers at Harbor Freight pretty cheap and reshape them in many forms.  Several of us hobby blacksmiths have done this.
