Sam Walker gunsmith Hublersburg Pa
« on: March 17, 2014, 03:25:42 AM »
A Sam Walker gun is coming for public sale locally . I looked at the gun today and it is signed Sam Walker in script on the barrel. It is very heavy 20 or 25 pounds about 45 caliber half stock percussion in reasonably good shape. The only info I can find on Sam Walker is in Kuaffman's book "The Pennsylvania-Kentucky Rifle". It lists Walker as a gunsmith in Hublersburg Pa 1861. This is close to my hometown and I would be interested in knowing more about the maker and his guns before the sale. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Ron

Ron,
I assume the Hublersburg you refer to is in Centre County, PA.  Below is the information I have on this gunsmith.  His surname appears in many of the records as "Walkey".  Please share photos of the rifle if you end up getting it.  Good luck.

Thank You. It is possible Walkey was the last name on the barrel. The last couple letters were hard to see and the light was not very good in the building. If I end up with the gun I will post some pictures.

I realize over two years have past since this post. Samuel Walkey was my gggreat grandfather.
I stumbled across your post of many years when researching about a long rifle I have made by
Samuel Walkey. Did you purchase the gun? I am looking for any info you might have. Any tidbit
would be welcomed.
Thanks
