Double Sided Tape For Inlays
« on: February 09, 2017, 01:46:58 AM »
Needed to make a few identical inlays, I used to Solder the pieces together but it was always a pain and a bigger mess to clean up. So I tried Two Sided Carpet tape, worked great. Put on the tape, press together in vice, saw/file to shape, draft the sides, heat, quench, bend if needed and inlet.
May be old news to some but it was new to me.

Wonder if that would hold up when drilling parts like key escutcheons.

I use super glue when making multiple inlays. When finished, use a propane torch and they  separate......super glue no longer adheres  at 250 degrees or above....Fred

It came from a Flooring store. TC

As for drilling while taped together, I do not see why not. I would not think it, the drilling would generate enough heat, sawing it with a Jeweler Saw doesn't, to cause the pieces to separate, worth a try. TC

This is good to know.    I knew you could heat epoxy to release it.   I didn't know the same applied to cyanoacrylate.
